Inside Gobik Band - Angel Lencina

Ángel Lencina tells us that his love for cycling runs in the family. In fact, working in the family sports store unknowingly led to his connection with cycling. GobikI've always been attracted to design and I started making proposals for cycling clubs in the city, and I realized that it was what I really liked".

So much so that, one day, Alberto García, cofounder of GobikAlberto García, called him for an embryonic design department in the brand: "With my incorporation, the design department was born. Then I moved on to the product development department, and today I am the head of it".

In this way, Ángel has grown with the company, at his own pace: "My career has been parallel to the company's growth. Gobikgrowing within the brand to levels that jamI would have never dreamed of, working among World Tour cyclists, taking their measurements and listening to their advice on how to improve the garments".

Passion for the job

He remembers joining the GobikSince 2015: "Eight years already, which, seeing the youth of the company, you could say that I'm already one of the veterans". Eleven people work with him: "I am lucky to have a team with infinite passion for what they do, true creatives who push innovation to the limit, and who make our dreams come true every day".

At the heart of creation

In this chain, there are four clearly marked points that he tells us about:

"The first step is the idea, to raise the garment and the need that you detect in the market, and even yourself in an outlet."

"We continue with the concreteness in the form of pattern and fabrics to be used. Subtle details come into play here, such as the areas that need more elasticity, the direction of the thread... it all adds up."

"The third point is parallel to pattern making, with the creation of a graphic design, accessories and details that help make a difference."

"The final step is execution, with the printing and creation of the garment itself."

Angel oversees the entire cycle: "I'm in every step. It's true that I'm not an expert at the garment-making level, but thanks to the research and vision of all these years and the work of the more than 12 specialists that make up our garment-making laboratory, we managed to create a product with performance that has already led us to win the Tour de France".

The day-to-day work focuses on "professional teams, the various collections or our garment customization service. These are processes that require revolutionary solutions to meet the needs of any cyclist.

It's a wheel that doesn't stop: "The summer collection is manufactured at least five or six months before it comes out, between February and March, and it has to be developed months before. We're practically talking about twelve months, although before that period, we already have ideas and proposals. As soon as one collection is finished, we are already thinking about the next one".

"I can say that we don't get bored," he concludes, defining his work on three pillars: "Nonconformity, constancy and effort.
