In UAE Team Emirates' race to success, in competition images, there is one element common to almost every snapshot: the bib Absolute WT. With this basic garment has been developed much of the competition of a historic year for the team and for Gobik.
"These bib shorts are designed with the athlete in mind." says Portuguese Rui Costa, one of the most important members of the team, an experienced cyclist and world champion a few years ago.
From the design department, Angel Lencina describes the bib of the UAE Team Emirates triumphs: "It is a bib designed for competitionwhere compression and comfort have been prioritized. Part of the pattern of our famous bib Absolutebut made with different fabrics, even more technical. It is mainly composed of a flat weave 4-way stretchlight and adaptable to the body in all four directions, for a final degree of compressibility equivalent to heavier lycra".
Bib Absolute WT: The secret is in the chamois
For Davide Formoloone of the main contributors to the team's success in the Tour de France with Pogačar, the chamois from Absolute WT "is an extra in competitions as tough as ours" and he is not without reason, because in it we find one of the critical points between the cyclist and the bike.
"The bib is very good," continues Davide Formolo. When you spend a lot of time on the bike, every detail counts and makes a difference, especially at those points where the body comes into contact with it, such as the pedal, handlebars and, of course, the saddle."
The chamois from bib Absolute WT is the K10a piece designed for the male anatomy, with 8 hours of guaranteed performance, thanks to its thickness of 11 mm and double density. It is apparently flat and pleasant to the touch, but its composition prioritizes breathability and air permeability. Its central channel avoids numbness in the central part of the cyclist by favoring blood flow. All made with sustainable materials.
"The choice of materials is the right one, as the piece fits very well, is comfortable and feels soft to the skin." Rui Costa adds.
A bib tailored to the cyclist
"It has an extra long cut due to the elasticity of the fabric it is made of. This allows you to adjust the length of the bib the length of the garment a little more than normal without it moving on the bike. The lightness of this bib is given by the weight of the main fabric, which is very light," continues Ángel Lencina from Gobik.
For Formolo "the design is neat and feels good. I find it very light and at the same time durable, something that doesn't happen with many bib shorts. For his part, Rui Costa recalls that "I've been in the peloton for many years and I've seen firsthand the evolution that has taken place in cycling. When I compare these bib shorts with the ones I started with, there is a world of difference. The improvements that have been made over the years are unbelievable.”.
Regarding the future of this piece, Ángel Lencina anticipates that "given the great acceptance by UAE Emirates, who are the only ones who have enjoyed this model, in principle it will not have any significant variation. The model will remain the same for at least one more season".
Recall that this bib was launched for sale as part of the special edition of the Gobik for UAE Team Emirates so "the idea is to incorporate it into our collection next season as a new model of bib with an aesthetic in line with our image," Angel concludes.
