There’s something about crossing a border by bike. Suddenly, the distance feels greater than it really is, the road signs change, the language changes, the way you order a coffee in the next village changes. Here, it happens five times.
That’s the idea behind Passport Checkers: five countries on a single route. Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany. In that corner of the Alps, they are so close together that sometimes a pass or a bridge is all it takes to go from one to another.
It all begins at a lake with a bell tower rising from the middle of the water. It is all that remained standing of the old village of Graun when the valley was flooded in 1950. From there, the route climbs to the Reschenpass and enters Austria through Nauders, a village at 1,400 meters with three outbound roads and a country at the end of each one. You can even find “the three-country stone,” where Austria, Italy and Switzerland meet at once. It can only be reached on foot, but it’s worth the photo if you have time.
From there on, the route keeps counting countries: Switzerland descending the Norbertshöhe toward Martina, Austria again to climb the Arlberg via the old road, Liechtenstein from end to end in less than an hour, and Germany at the end, in Lindau, with Lake Constance waiting.
No border will stop you. Every one of them will change something in you.

Around 230 km and approximately 2,000 metres of elevation gain. But the distance is what counts: you can do it here or replicate it from your city. You have 9 days from the moment it is activated. Once you complete it, Strava will give you a link to unlock your reward.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I have to travel to take part?
No. The original route is the inspiration for the challenge, but you can complete it from your town, your city or wherever you want. You do not need to ride the original itinerary or cross any border: you only need to complete the challenge distance within the indicated time frame.
Do I have to follow a specific route?
No. You choose the route. You can discover new roads with your riding group or ride your usual roads, adapting the route to the kilometres proposed by the challenge.
What do I get for completing the challenge?
When you complete the challenge, you receive a digital badge on Strava and you are entered into the draw for a Gobik Custom kit for your riding group.
Do I have to complete all the A Unique Way challenges?
No, it is not necessary to complete all 6 routes. Completing just one of them is enough to enter the draw. You will receive information about this on each route.
Is the kit guaranteed when I complete the challenge?
No. The digital badge is for those who complete the challenge. The Gobik Custom kit is awarded by draw: there is one Custom kit prize for each route.
