"We want to leave our mark wherever we go, our credentials in every World Cup task in which we participate.... To cross countryFor cross country, we have a very young team, including some of the best talents and in marathon and in marathon we have gathered a lot of experience for long distances. We enjoy the trust of big brands and we want to repay them in full".
This is how the people of Wilier Triestina-Pirellia project that comes from two companies that represent the prestige of Italy in the bicycle industry. So it is more than just a team, it is a block that wants to play a dominant role in the international MTB racesin all calendars and modalities.
These are the bikers of the Wilier Triestina-Pirelli
The work has been done with the same passion shown by the two patrons. In the end, a Factory Team The two companies have the opportunity to work in a context of constant improvement.
The Wilier Triestina-Pirelli consists of eight bikers. Half of them are going for long distance (XCM) and the other for cross country (XCO), with the focus on the World Cup, but also on the big Italian races. The youth of the second group contrasts with the experience of the first.
"The cross country team is a very young team, possibly the youngest you can find on the circuit, but with four athletes ready to shine already", they say.
Here are the four members of the XCO block:
Giada SpeciaGiada Specia: "She is our only girl in the team, one of the great talents of women's MTB in the world. She comes from being Italian U23 champion and fourth in the bike marathon world championship".
Simone AvondettoSimone Avondetto: "He is ready to take a step forward after exploring last year, being second in the marathon World Cup. He is immersed in the fight for the Italian U23 series".
Janis BaumannJanis Baumann: "He is a Swiss biker, born in Chur, who is in his second year of U23, having ridden the entire World Cup calendar. He comes very learned and with several top ten in his palmarès".
Gioele De CosmoGioele De Cosmo: "He is the only elite of the cross country team. He was Italian U23 champion three years ago. After a 2021 complicated by injuries, the Piedmontese comes hungry to regain his level of years ago".
And here the other half, for XC marathon:
That settles on four experienced bikers, who together add up to a hundred victories, discounting national titles and some world medal.
Wout AllemanWout Alleman: "He is the Belgian champion. Last year he won the Sea Otter marathon and is a very strong rider. Experienced, but young, he is a great asset in stage races, a life insurance that is always ready in big events."
Fabian RabensteinerHe is the reigning Italian and European champion. The tricolor is for him the consecration of a career that has not stopped improving. He is a long-distance specialist. When he is in good condition, his pace can be followed by very few. For him, the goal is the Cape Epicthe big showcase of the year, although this does not prevent the Tyrolean from being unwell since the beginning of the year".
Daniel GeismayrThe giant of the team, with his meter ninety. He comes from a very complicated 2021 with a broken femoral head that took him out of competition for the whole year. Now he appears 100% recovered before a year full of big straights. I think the World Cup in Denmark is perfect for him".
Samuele PorroHe has so many jerseys national championships that he could wear one every day of the week, but not only that, he already has world championship medals and even victories in the Cape Epic. Despite suffering a crash, he had the guts to come fourth in the South African race that is missing from his palmares".
Two short and long term goals: Epic Series and Olympics
The team is already a regular in the World Cup and the International Series in Italy, sponsored by Pirelli. Add to that national, European and world championships, along with World Cups. "As it could not be otherwise, our athletes are looking forward to the Epic Series" they emphasize.
And so it was. At the Absa Cape Epic 2022 the team had a fantastic participation with a sixth place for Daniel Geismayr and a seventh place for Fabian Rabensteiner.
It should be remembered, however, that the project was created with an eye to Paris 2024. "That's why we have such young people who can grow and arrive prepared for the goal of the Games" they conclude.
