The irruption of the electric bicycle began to land in the competition stadiums the day that the WES -World E-Bike Series- were established. It was a couple of years ago, in Monaco, with the intention to create the first international competition focused exclusively on electric bicycles.
After the 2020 hiatus, the first sketch became a reality at the end of this April. It coincided with the first round of the World Cup of electric bikes, following the same scheme as the Olympic cross-country races, with two rounds on a multipurpose circuit, which tested all kinds of skills, with technical areas and enduro-style descents, which were returned uphill.
At the end of six laps, with very specific points to overtake, the ebikers completed the first race in the history of this competition. Sofia Wiedenroth and Jerôme Gilloux signed the first victories.
Gobik The first leaders were seen as part of something new, unheard of, but which will surely become completely normalized in the near future. Not surprisingly, the reticence that the electric bicycle aroused at first has turned to praise and desire to join a modality that is also writing its first lines in competition.
Being part of history
"What attracts us most is to be an active part of the history of something new," says Gino Dona, Brand Manager at Gobik.
At the Monaco race, the people Gobik appreciated an array of media and names that speak of the quality of the WES bet, behind whose organization there are experienced professionals in these matters.
In short, it was The commitment of some fifty athletes of the highest level, including three Olympic medalists such as Nathalie Schneitter, Marco Aurelio Fontana and José Antonio Hermida, plus world and national champions.
At the industry level, there are almost twenty brands of bicycles and six brands of engines. All this results in about thirty competition teams, at Factory level, i.e. teams that will test the material and get the best performance out of it so that the end user can enjoy it.
The bet also includes the authorities of the regions and cities where the competition takes place, highlighting the advantages of a future with electric mobility on bicycles.
After Monaco, the E-Bike World Cup will travel to Bologna at the beginning of June, Clermond-Ferrand, in the heart of France, in mid-July and, from the end of September, will make a couple of stops in Spain, first on the occasion of the celebration of the Sea Otter Europe in Girona and then in Castelldefels, Barcelona.
