Ángel Lencina tells us that his love for cycling runs in the family. In fact, while working in the family sports store, his connection with Gobik arrived without him knowing it: “I have always felt drawn to design and I started creating proposals for cycling clubs in the city, and I realized that it was what I really liked.”
So well, in fact, that one day Alberto García, cofounder of Gobik, called him to join what was then an embryonic design department at the brand: “With my arrival, the design department emerged. Later I moved to product development, and today I am its head.”
In this way, Ángel has grown alongside the company, at its pace: “My journey has run parallel to Gobik’s, growing within the brand to levels I would never have dreamed of, working among World Tour cyclists, taking their measurements and listening to their advice to improve the garments.”

Passion for the work
He recalls joining the Gobik team in 2015: “Eight years already, which, given the youth of the company, means you could say I’m already one of the veterans.” Eleven people work with him: “I’m fortunate to have a team with an endless passion for what they do, true creatives who push innovation to the limit and make our dreams a reality every day.”
At the heart of creation
In this chain, there are four clearly defined points that he describes to us:
“The first step is the idea, defining the garment and the need you identify in the market, or even yourself on a ride.”
“We continue with translating it into a pattern and selecting the fabrics to be used. Here, subtle details come into play, such as the areas that need more elasticity, the direction of the yarn… everything adds up.”
“The third point runs parallel to pattern making, with the creation of a graphic design, accessories and details that help make the difference.”
“The final step is execution, with the printing and creation of the garment itself.”
Ángel oversees the entire cycle: “I’m involved in every step. It’s true that I’m not an expert in garment construction, but thanks to the research and vision from all these years, and the work of the more than 12 specialists who make up our garment construction laboratory, we are able to create a product with performance that has already led us to win the Tour de France.”
Day-to-day work is focused on “professional teams, the different collections or our custom apparel service. These are processes that require revolutionary solutions to meet the needs of any cyclist.”
It is a wheel that never stops: “The summer collection is manufactured at least five or six months before launch, between February and March, and it has to be developed months earlier. We are practically talking about twelve months, although even before that period, we are already working with ideas and proposals. As soon as one collection is finished, we are already thinking about the next.”
“I can say that we never get bored,” he concludes, defining his work in three pillars: “Nonconformity, perseverance and effort.”
