At the heart of Gobik are the people, whose precision and passion are reflected in every garment. Today we meet Javier Melgarejo, head of the Digital Printing Department. A fan of off-road adventures, cycling, and hands-on work at home, Javier brings the same practical mindset from his personal life to the technical world of printing, where every detail counts.
Inks, plotters and vinyl
Javier’s day begins by checking messages and emails before organizing the workload. He leads a department that operates efficiently and with structure, divided into four main areas: the plotter room, where the machines are prepared and maintained; incident management, where pieces with anomalies are reprinted; roll loading, where queued jobs are organized; and vinyl cutting, both for custom orders and collection garments.
“What we print most are short-sleeve jerseys and bib shorts, especially the CX and Absolute models,” he explains. Each piece is processed with care to ensure uniform printing and on-time delivery.
For Javier, the biggest challenge lies in planning the printing sequence. This involves having an overall view of the production cycle: the fabric must be cut and ready for calendering, orders must be grouped efficiently, and urgent jobs must be integrated without disrupting the overall flow. It is a daily puzzle that demands planning, vision, and adaptability.
Javier’s path to Gobik began almost by chance. He was working at a company that provided services to Gobik, and he was immediately drawn to the process of creating cycling apparel. Passionate about cycling, joining the project in its early stages was a natural and exciting step.
“It was fascinating to see how everything was created. Being part of this project from the beginning has been very special,” he shares.
Beyond the print room
Outside of work, Javier enjoys being in contact with nature. He rides both mountain and road bikes, or heads out along rural tracks on his off-road motorcycle. At home he is practical and resourceful: he likes fixing things, maintaining vehicles, or doing small electrical repairs.
“What I like most is the feeling of being outdoors, far from noise and buildings,” he says. That same clarity also guides his work: focused, practical, and steady even under pressure.
