Gobik’s mother opens her heart to us
If there is one word that perfectly describes what Gobik is, it is surely “family.” That is exactly how the self-proclaimed “mother of Gobik” describes it. And mind you, she does not say that because she gave birth to the company, but because everyone who works within the company sees in Sole that maternal figure who always has everything under control and who also has the experience that comes with the years.
Sole Arnao holds the position of Head of Administration at Gobik. She is 50 and would not trade the administrative work she does for anything, something that, as she herself says, is in her blood thanks to her father: “I’ve been working forever; I’ve worked in administration all my life. My father worked here in Yecla, in major furniture companies. He was also an accountant, an administrator, he loved his work and I inherited that, meaning not only is it inherited, but he passed on that love for this to me. Even at university, he taught me accounting. I enjoy working here and I’m happy working in administration.”
Let’s go back a little, because to better understand the essence of a relationship as beautiful as the one between Gobik and Sole, we have to start at the beginning. Sole does not have an idyllic story, quite the opposite. With all the simplicity and humility in the world, she tells us that when she joined the company, she did so out of financial necessity. Perhaps that is also what has shaped this company: the simplicity of the people who make it up, the humility and the willingness to work of ordinary people in everyday life.
Ordinary people who have kept adding and adding, as Sole proudly explains: “In April, I’ll mark seven years with the company. When I joined, there were 40 of us; now there are 200, if I remember correctly.” And mind you, the growth can not only be seen in the number of people working within the company, but also in one of the key elements, the website, as Sole explains: “Something I’ve seen grow—not grow, but be born—has been the website. When I joined, the website didn’t even exist, and now seeing how big it has become... the truth is, I don’t even know how to describe it in words. My mind still can’t fully take it in. How much Gobik has grown today, starting from nothing.”
After 7 years, we asked Sole what reasons she now has for choosing Gobik again every day, and the truth is that her answer could well help define the company: “Well, because of everything it brings to me. As I said, I’m already 50 years old. I have people on my team who are 23, which means that here, as you’ve seen, most people are young. It gives me vitality, freshness, constant learning... in everything. Not only in knowledge, but in the way of dressing, in the way of thinking, in the way of acting...”
As it couldn’t be otherwise, we had to ask Sole which jersey from the Gobik collection she would be, and her answer is truly original, as she identifies more with the casual line, opting for a T-shirt for her mountain walks with her husband.
