"I think the Eolo Kometa has a well-earned place in the heart of the Italian fan. We know that cycling fans like to cheer for all the teams, that they have their favorite cyclists, but being Italy and the Giro, and us being an Italian team, we have felt very loved by the people," begins Óscar Sánchez, head of communications and sponsorship for the Eolo Kometa.
He explains it to us days after finishing the Giro, at home, more relaxed, taking perspective on three weeks that have had, almost every day, a light blue in the good cut.
"The balance could not be better, to the stage of Davide Bais in Campo Imperatore and his seven days as leader of the mountains, we can add ten places in the top ten. These are figures that make us very proud," he says.
An unexpected refreshment
One of the team's most unique moments came on the Passo Valparola, one of the most important mountain passes of the race. We're talking about the day when the cyclists climb the Three Tops of Lavaredo.
That's where the communication team of the Eolo Kometa's communication team, together with GobikThe Kometa communication team went to the top of the race to organize a surprising action in the midst of the race's crowd. One hour before, they were located one kilometer from the summit with 200 jerry cans and an attached card thanking them for the affection shown to the team during the whole Giro, and inviting them to open the jerry can.
Inside were as many jerseys from Eolo Kometa, signed by the Spanish brand, so that people could make a light blue corridor to welcome the runners an hour later.
"The faces of the people said it all. The bidon is something iconic that every good cycling fan chases in a race. In fact, we were with other team assistants, there ready to give their riders their supplies. What they didn't expect is that each bidon will carry a jersey. The commotion was great," Oscar tells us.
"There was a bit of everything. Fans with jerseys and children with a look of illusion that is hard to forget. We knew that with this gesture we were giving life to the harbor and that the jerseys The new bikes would become a great souvenir as well as a useful one, as there were a lot of people who had cycled to the place," he recalls.
The Giro turned light blue a kilometer and a bit from the top of the Valparola. The affection that the Eolo Kometa earned on the road was embodied in a spontaneous and memorable act for many good fans. 200 jerseys of the team have become fans of the sport who will proudly wear the names of Eolo Kometa and Gobik on their outings.
