The story of Gabriel and "The Last of the Marathon"

There are commitments that transcend time and challenges that find meaning in effort. Behind "El Último de la Maratón" is Gabriel, driven by a promise he made to his father during his battle against cancer. Faced with the harsh reality of the diagnosis, one analogy changed everything: his father compared the illness to a race where crossing the finish line first meant the journey was over, while holding on in last position meant gaining life, stealing days from the clock and enjoying every step along the way. From that conversation, a project was born that uses sport as a platform to raise funds for research and pay tribute to those who fight the disease every day.

What began as an intimate tribute has grown into a committed community. After an initial 24-hour challenge that went viral on social media and reached hundreds of thousands of views, the project moved beyond virality to become a constant support network where every donation counts.

1,500 kilometers, from Paris to Yecla

The journey between the French capital and the town of Yecla in Murcia arose by chance after a conversation over coffee between two co-workers, Sole and Gabriel. However, turning a spontaneous idea into 1,500 kilometers in the saddle required months of preparation, early mornings alone and giving up personal moments to build the mental strength that ultra-distance demands.

The journey put that preparation to the test upon reaching Jaca, where a fire forced them to change the planned route and add 50 extra kilometers to legs already at their limit. The reward for so much uncertainty came on the final turn before the finish in Yecla: a massive استقبال with more than 300 people waiting and applauding, confirming that the initiative has become a shared cause supported by many.

Gobik and Gabriel: identity and camaraderie

Carrying out an initiative of this scale requires surrounding yourself with allies who share the same vision. For Gabriel, who is part of the Gobik team, the response from José Ramón and Alberto was clear from the very first meeting: a resounding 'yes' backed by absolute confidence in the charitable purpose of this adventure.

It is not just about providing technical gear for the most demanding days, but about aligning fundamental values such as consistent hard work, the capacity for sacrifice in the face of adversity and empathy.

Values on the road and looking to the future

The driving force behind "El Último de la Maratón" goes beyond sport. The project is built on resilience, empathy, and the conviction that, when faced with a diagnosis or a moment of uncertainty, the key attitude is not to stop. The discipline demanded by the road becomes a metaphor for the life process itself: it is not always possible to choose the hardship of the journey, but it is possible to choose to keep pedaling.

Looking ahead to the coming months, Gabriel wants to preserve that mystery, but an idea is already taking shape in his mind. New proposals, new routes, and new projects that will keep the surprise factor alive for the community, with unprecedented challenges that will seek to take the message even further.

The original promise remains intact: to add more kilometers, involve more people, and prove that no matter how distant the goal may seem, it is always worth continuing.
